Professional Statement
Dr. Wright graduated in medicine from the University of London in 1984. She subsequently gained fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1991 and Fellowship of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine in 2011. She has worked as an anaesthetist in Southern Africa and in the UK. Having trained in perioperative echocardiography at Duke University Medical Center in the USA she established and led the peri-operative echocardiography service at the Heart Hospital before moving to her current post as a consultant anaesthetist at St. George’s Hospital in London, where she has continued to pursue her interest in echocardiography education.

With two colleagues she co-invented the HeartWorks Echocardiography Simulator in 2008 and has continued to develop this teaching tool since, as well as authoring a TOE e-learning programme and conducting research in to TOE simulation. Dr. Wright has directed theatre and simulator based TOE courses on a regular basis, as well as participating in TOE educational activities in the USA, Europe and Africa.

She is committed to the provision of anaesthesia for elective and emergency cardiac and thoracic surgery, as well as electrophysiology and structural heart intervention in the cardiac catheter labs.
